Cordyceps (Cordyceps sinensis); This mushroom is believed to stimulate immune function by increasing the number of T helper cells, stimulating natural killer cell activity and increasing the levels of interferon-gamma. tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukin. Studies in animals with cancer suggest Cordyceps imroves immune response and may reduce tumor size.
Maitake (Grifola frondosa): Maitake mushroon contains Beta-glucan, the "D-fraction" of which appears to be a VERY active and potent ANTITUMOR agent. The mushroom has immunostimulant effects and activates natural killer cells, cutotoxic T-calls, interleukin-1 and superoxide anions. Preliminary research suggests that Maitake mushrooms can prvent metastasis of experimentaly induced tumors as well as prevent tumor occurence in normal cells.
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum): Reshi contains polysaccharides including beta=glucans and triterpenes. These constituents are thought to contribute several pharmacological effects, including antioxident, antitumor, immune modulating, cardiovascular antiviral, and antibacterial effects. Triterpenoids from reishi mushroon are thougth to have potential immunomodulating, antiviral, antitumor and antioxident activities.
